Footage of 19-Year-Old DOOM Testifying Before Congress in 1991 Surfaces

In 1991, Rock the Vote—the organization that encourages young people to vote—pushed for the passage of the Motor Voter Bill, which amongst other things would have enabled voting registration at the DMV. At a U.S. Senate hearing on the bill, none other than DOOM—who was then a 19-year old rapping under the name Zev Love X as part of the group KMD—testified on its importance to young voters. In honor of today’s election, Rappcats has posted video of the testimony; watch it below, via FACT.

Even then, he was confident. He doesn’t blink when he tells a roomful of U.S. senators, “My name is Zev Love X… Zev, for short.”

Zev testified alongside fellow KMD member Onyx and Rock the Vote co-founder Steve Barr. The Motor Voter Bill was vetoed by the first President Bush, but was eventually signed into law in 1993 by President Clinton.
