Fred Armisen and Bill Hader’s Fake Band Blue Jean Committee Release Real EP, Play "Seth Meyers"

Fred Armisen and Bill Hader's Fake Band Blue Jean Committee Release Real EP, Play "Seth Meyers"

Last year, Fred Armisen released a collection of 7″ singles by some of his fictional “Saturday Night Live” bands. One of those bands, the Blue Jean Committee, is a blue-eyed soul band composed of Armisen and former “SNL” co-star Bill Hader. Today, it was announced that Drag City will release Catalina Breeze, an EP collecting seven of the band’s (very real) songs, on November 20.

A press release describes the band thusly: “Inspired by such laid back duos as Loggins & Messina, Seals & Crofts, Becker & Fagan and England Dan and John Ford Coley and well-versed in the ‘Lido Shuffle,’ to boot, the Blue Jean Committee were the proud products of the late ’70s Northampton, Massachusetts music scene.”

The Blue Jean Committee also appeared on last night’s episode of “Late Night With Seth Meyers” (where Armisen leads the house band) to perform “Catalina Breeze”. You can watch a video of that performance below.

Additionally, the band will also appear in the upcoming season finale of IFC’s “Documentary Now!”, Hader and Meyers’ series of faux documentaries. Below, you can watch a preview of that episode, which is titled “Gentle & Soft: The Story of the Blue Jean Committee”.
