Future Islands‘ last appearance on “The Late Show With David Letterman” was a star-making turn for Samuel T. Herring. Letterman, giddy about Herring’s dancing, shouted “I’ll take all of that you got!” Last night, the band returned to the show, and they came with their new song “The Chase”. “This song goes out to the people of Baltimore,” Herring said. “Let us not discount their voices.”

Directly after their performance, they released “The Chase” on iTunes via 4AD. The retail version of the song, which features the new song “Haunted By You” on the B-side, was recorded in Austin last month and produced by Spoon’s Jim Eno. Find the single’s artwork (by Lesser Gonzalez) below. Update: The vinyl will be released on June 30 with a limited edition of 2,400 copies. Listen to both songs below.

The band also recorded the song at Abbey Road Studios—it was a one-off direct-to-disc release for Record Store Day in the UK.
