Gorillaz, Mavis Staples, Pusha T Team on New Song “Let Me Out”: Listen

As promised, Gorillaz have premiered their new track “Let Me Out” featuring Mavis Staples and Pusha T on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show. In a new interview with Lowe, Damon Albarn spoke about the song’s creation. He said he wrote the song during a nearly two-day train ride from New York City, which gave him time to write the lyrics for Staples’ verse. (In the same interview, Albarn also said he has 40 more Gorillaz songs recorded, in addition to the ones on their jam-packed forthcoming album Humanz, out April 28.) Listen to “Let Me Out” below:

Pusha raps, “Look into my eyes, Mama, tell me what you see/Tell me there’s a chance for me to make it out the streets/Tell me that I won’t die at the hands of the police/Promise me I won’t outlive my nephew and my niece.”

Here’s Damon’s interview with Zane:

“Let Me Out” follows the previously released Humanz tracks “Ascension” (with Vince Staples), “We Got the Power” (with Noel Gallagher and Jehnny Beth), “Saturnz Barz” (with Popcaan), and “Andromeda” (with D.R.A.M.). When Gorillaz debuted the album live a couple of weeks ago, they were joined by several artists involved in the project, including Danny Brown, De La Soul, Pusha T, Kelela, and many others.
