Gorillaz Share New Visual Story “The Book of Russel”: Watch
Recently, Gorillaz joined Instagram and shared a massive multimedia timeline of their career. They then got specific and shared “The Book of Noodle,” which told the story of what the band’s cartoon guitarist had been up to since “the attack on Plastic Beach.” Today, drummer Russel Hobbs’ story has been told in “The Book of Russel.”
It begins with Russel swimming to Plastic Beach, growing 60 times his size on the way. Suddenly, pirates attacked, separating him and Noodle from the band’s Murdoc Niccals. Eventually, Russel got taken captive in Pyongyang when he was mistaken for “Pulgasari, the legendary North Korean Godzilla.” After “the Glorious Leader” realized Russel was merely a man, he was released and sent back to London, where he slept on real-life Gorillaz guitarist Jeff Wootton’s futon. At Wootton’s, Russel got a call from Murdoc: “The band was getting back together.” Watch “The Book of Russel” below.
Gorillaz appear to be gearing up for a new album. Studio footage of Albarn and Jamie Hewlett surfaced this past spring, and Snoop Dogg and De La Soul have been confirmed as collaborators for the new project. Today, Gorillaz partnered with Jaguar Formula E Racing. In a short film (directed by Hewlett), Noodle races an electric Jaguar car.
