Grateful Dead Annotated for Pitchfork.tv's “Liner Notes”: Watch

Today, Pitchfork.tv has shared a “Liner Notes” documentary about one of the most influential American rock bands of all time: the Grateful Dead. In addition to featuring music from the band, the documentary delves into their history, including their early days in California, their ties to drug culture and to the Beats, their quick adoption of the internet, and more. The short was animated by Matt Caldamone and Anthony Esquivel. Watch it below. In May, an all-star tribute to the band, Day of the Dead, was released. It features contributions from the National, Grizzly Bear, Kurt Vile, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, and many more.
