Hamilton Wins Eleven Awards at 2016 Tony Awards

Hamilton won eleven awards at the Tony Awards tonight. The musical was nominated for sixteen awards, more than any other production in the award’s history. Hamilton won awards for Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Choreography, Best Leading Actor in a Musical (Leslie Odom Jr.), Best Featured Actress in a Musical (Renée Elise Goldsberry), Best Costume Design of a Musical, Best Featured Actor in a Musical (Daveed Diggs), and more. Earlier in the year the musical received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Hamilton‘s Original Broadway Cast Recording also won the Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album. Lin-Manuel Miranda paid tribute to the victims in the Orlando shooting in an acceptance speech; watch that, a clip from the cast’s performance during the ceremony, and the President and First Lady’s introduction of the performance below.
