Heems’ TV Show Is Not Happening

Heems, formerly of Das Racist and currently of Swet Shop Boys, announced last year that 20th Century Fox had bought the rights to his life story and planned to develop it into a TV show titled “Eat Pray Thug,” after his solo LP of the same name. Heems has now revealed in an interview with the Fader that the sitcom will not be happening. “The show was developed but didn’t get picked up,” he said. “It was an awesome learning experience and probably not the last thing I’ll dabble with in that world.” The show was set to be produced by Sanjay Shah, who has worked on “Fresh Off the Boat,” and star “The Mindy Project”’s Utkarsh Ambudkar, according to an earlier report from NBC News.

While Heems will not yet be making his foray into television, he still has plans to write a book. Of the in-the-works novel, Heems told The Fader:

It has to do with cab driving and drugs in New York in post 9/11, but the last conversation I had about it was two nights ago and involved turning it into a sci-fi film, so it’s still very much in the idea stage. I started putting some pages down but it’s a long road ahead with that project.

Last week, Heems’ new group Swet Shop Boys released their debut album, Cashmere.
