Inside Radiohead’s A Moon Shaped Pool Release Event

Today, Radiohead held their worldwide streaming event for A Moon Shaped Pool at record stores across the globe. Upon announcing it, the band said the event “features an exclusive day long audio stream from the band, competitions, instructional artworks and more.” They later added, that they “have assembled pre-recorded piped music to be played through the walls of” the various record stores. Later, a participating UK store explained there will be “an exclusive audio broadcast of material specially curated by the band, as well as a very special 2-hour live set of performances from their latest tour, featuring songs from the new album & favourites from the radiohead catalogue.” The band confirmed the live material would draw from their recent London Roundhouse shows (with Jonny Greenwood choosing highlights), while playlists curated by Thom Yorke, Ed O’Brien, and Colin Greenwood would play throughout the day. Reports are emerging from events in New Zealand and Australia, with Redditors sharing updates from in-store. Below, check out an 84-minute video featuring most of the live audio, from Red Eye Records in Sydney (via Moshcam), as well as details on each member’s playlist and Jonny’s setlist.

Unsurprisingly, Thom’s playlist skews electronic, with picks from DJ Rashad, James Holden, J Dilla, Arca, Floating Points, and others. Colin Greenwood selected a reggae playlist and Ed O’Brien veered into Tropicália and bossa nova. There’s also a “From the Radiohead Vaults” playlist, featuring B-sides, album tracks, remixes, and rarities from throughout their career. (Images via South Record Shop in Essex, England.)

Yesterday, images of Stanley Donwood’s “inconsequential pamphlet” surfaced. Check them out here, via Reddit user Vagrant_Antelope and Sean Collier.

YouTube user Geogogeogo turned Thom’s playlist into a YouTube playlist. Listen below.
