Isaiah "Ikey" Owens, Member of Jack White's Band and the Mars Volta, Has Died

Update: According to a representative, the coroner has determined that Owens’ cause of death was a heart attack.

Keyboardist Isaiah “Ikey” Owens, who was a member of Jack White’s band, the Mars Volta, and many other projects, has died. The news was announced by Third Man Records, who posted a note on their website:

It is with great sadness that we tell the world of the passing of the incredible musician Isaiah “Ikey” Owens.  He will be missed and loved forever by his family, friends, bandmates and fans.  

Ikey Owens was an astounding keyboard player in Jack White’s backing band.  He also played with Mars Volta, Free Moral Agents, and many other projects. 

Out of respect for Ikey, the remaining shows of the Jack White Tour in Mexico have been cancelled. 

We will all miss you Ikey. You were and are an incredible artist. 

Owens was currently on tour with White’s band in Mexico.

Owens began his career playing with bands in Long Beach, California, including the Long Beach Dub Allstars and Crystal Antlers, along with his own band, Free Moral Agents. He played with the Mars Volta from 2001 to 2009. He joined White’s band in 2012, appearing on both of White’s solo albums.

Owens also worked with El-P, Mastodon, Saul Williams, and more.
