Johnny Thunders (New York Dolls, Heartbreakers) Biopic Announced

Johnny Thunders (New York Dolls, the Heartbreakers) will be the subject of an upcoming biopic that adapts Nina Antonia’s 1987 biography Johnny Thunders: In Cold Blood. The currently-untitled film will be directed by Jonas Åkerlund (who worked on Beyoncé’s Lemonade, and has made music videos for Lady Gaga, Sigur Rós, Pussy Riot, Madonna, and others), and it features an adapted script written by Chloë Caro, Ada Guerin, and Nina Antonia. Jim Agnew, and David Hilary will executive produce the film, which will begin production in early 2017.

Later this month, the Heartbreakers’ L.A.M.F. will be performed in full at an upcoming benefit concert for writer Stephen Saban, who is battling cancer. A new supergroup composed of Clem Burke of Blondie, Walter Lure of the Heartbreakers, the Replacements’ bassist Tommy Stinson, and MC5’s Wayne Kramer will perform the album.

Åkerlund is also set to direct Lords of Chaos, an upcoming film about the Norwegian black metal band Mayhem. Sky Ferreira was recently added to the cast of that film.
