Kanye West premiered the music video for The Life of Pablo’s “Fade” at the 2016 MTV VMAs this past weekend. The video’s director, Eli Russell Linetz, has now spoken about the Teyana Taylor-starring visual with The New York Times. In the interview, he revealed that the ending–which finds a cat-faced Taylor with her partner Iman Shumpert and their child, amid a flock of sheep–“is foreshadowing bigger things to come, which you guys will find out about soon enough.” Taylor, who is signed to West’s G.O.O.D. Music, has also hinted at a new video for West’s “Champions,” featuring Big Sean, Gucci Mane, Travis Scott, 2 Chainz, Migos’ Quavo, Yo Gotti, and Desiigner.
Elsewhere in the interview, Linetz discussed the “Fade” video’s influences. Among them were the 1983 film Flashdance, Grace Jones, John Carpenter films, “Dancing With the Stars,” the NBA Finals, and “’70s and ’80s porn.” Linetz also said “the sheep were pooping and peeing everywhere,” something Taylor discussed in another interview.
