Kendrick Lamar Samples Geraldo Rivera, Calls Out Fox News on New Album

Kendrick Lamar just released his new album DAMN., the follow-up to his excellent LP To Pimp a Butterfly from 2015. On the song “DNA.,” produced by Mike WiLL Made-It, Kendrick samples Geraldo Rivera’s Fox News segment following Kendrick’s performance of “Alright” at the BET Awards. “This is why I say that hip-hop has done more damage to young African-Americans than racism in recent years,” Rivera said, referencing the anti-police lyrics in “Alright.” The opener, “BLOOD.,” also samples the segment. On another song, “YAH.,” Kendrick makes direct reference to Fox News and Rivera, rapping, “Fox News wanna use my name for percentage… Somebody tell Geraldo this nigga got ambition.” Listen to those songs below. Elsewhere on the album, U2’s Bono appears on the song “XXX.”
