Kesha Appeals Dr. Luke Injunction Ruling

Kesha Appeals Dr. Luke Injunction Ruling

Kesha has asked for a second opinion on her legal battle with Dr. Luke, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Kesha (real name: Kesha Rose Sebert) filed court papers today asking a New York appellate court to overturn a judge’s recent ruling in her case.

Last month, New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich rejected Kesha’s request for a preliminary injunction that would have blocked Dr. Luke (real name: Lukasz Gottwald) from interfering with her signing to another label while the the case unfolds. Mark Geragos, Kesha’s lawyer, argued in the latest paperwork that Kornreich got it wrong when she found that Kesha “could record without interference” from Dr. Luke, as THR reports. Geragos wrote that although the judge “recognized that ‘slavery was done away with a long time ago and that ‘you can’t force someone to work … in a situation in which they don’t want to work,’” the court’s ruling “does just that.”

Kesha has alleged that Dr. Luke subjected her to rape and other abuse, and wants her contract terminated.

Pitchfork has reached out to Geragos as well as lawyers for Dr. Luke and Sony Music Entertainment, parent of Dr. Luke’s Kemosabe Records.
