Kim Gordon has been speaking with a variety of interviewers (including Carrie Brownstein) in promotion of her recent memoir Girl in a Band. Today, on the latest episode of his hit interview podcast “WTF”, Marc Maron sat down with Gordon in his garage for a chat spanning art, politics, and her personal life. Topics discussed include her reinvigorated interests in visual and performative art (and the artistic anxieties associated with the medium shift) as well as her relationships with her older Brother Keller, the “rock guys” of her youth, and the New York punk community; she also touches upon the world’s demands for her to write conventional music – and turns them down. “Writing this book is probably the most conventional thing I’ve ever done,” she says with a laugh.

Around the 11:30 mark, Gordon notes that she’d been filming a music video with longtime friend Peaches while she’d been in Los Angeles for Maron’s show. The Sonic Youth vocalist went on to say that she’d contributed the hook for a song penned with the singer entitled “Close Up”. “When I went in there [to record],” Gordon recalls, “it was just kind of a minimal hip hop track, and I just put something down and then Peaches built a rap around it.”
