KRS-One Pays Tribute to Wrong Beastie Boy in Song Dedicated to Dead Rappers

On May 9, veteran rapper KRS-One released his latest album, The World is MIND, and one of its tracks contains a grave error, as XXL points out. A song on the album titled “Hip Hop Speaks From Heaven” references many influential artists who have passed away, including Tupac, A Tribe Called Quest’s Phife Dawg, J Dilla, Eazy-E, Biggie, and Big Pun. But one of the artists he mentions—Beastie Boys’ Ad-Rock—is very much alive. “Like a late fog in the mist/I see King Ad-Rock/And rest in peace Nate Dogg/Their names and their natures will last,” he raps around the 3:12 mark. It is likely KRS-One was thinking of Adam “MCA” Yauch, the Beastie Boys member who passed away in 2012. Last fall, Ad-Rock gave a speech at an anti-hate rally held in the memorial park named after his late bandmate.
