Kurt Cobain Doc Montage of Heck Clip Features Early Performance, Krist Novoselic Interview

In a new clip from Montage of Heck, Brett Morgen’s forthcoming Kurt Cobain documentary, an early form of Nirvana is shown performing in a house… for an audience of two. Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic is also interviewed, where he talks about interacting with a young Cobain. Watch it below, via The New York Times.

In the clip, Novoselic says that when he and Cobain first met, the future Nirvana singer was working as a janitor. “He’d always have to do some kind of art—usually defacing something,” Novoselic says. “He never had, like, idle hands. It just came out of him; he had to express himself.”

Also in The New York Times piece, Morgen clarifies that an interview with former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl won’t appear as a DVD extra. (It was previously reported that Montage of Heck wouldn’t include Grohl in the initial documentary.)

HBO will air Montage of Heck on May 4. It is screening in select theaters now.
