Listen to Prince’s Previously Unreleased Track “Moonbeam Levels”

Today, NPG and Warner Bros. Records released the new compilation Prince 4Ever. Included in the collection is a previously unreleased track called “Moonbeam Levels,” which was originally recorded in 1982 during the sessions for 1999. ABC News has played the song for a group of Prince fans during a listening session at New York’s Cutting Room Recording Studios. Below, listen to “Moonbeam Levels,” and see a discussion about Prince.

Although the Prince 4Ever inclusion is the first official release of “Moonbeam Levels,” the track has been found on bootleg collections over the years. In 2013, Elvis Costello covered the song at a Carnegie Hall “The Music of Prince” tribute concert. Watch his performance below.

NPG and Warner Bros. plan to reissue Purple Rain early next year. The labels have also said that it will “arrive with a second album of previously unreleased material.”
