Solange is the guest on today’s “Song Exploder” podcast, where she discussed the making of the A Seat at the Table highlight “Cranes in the Sky.” In the episode, which includes a number of isolated vocal tracks from the song, Solange explains how it took form over seven years, originating from a CD of Raphael Saadiq instrumental stems. She also talks about finding inspiration in Miami and reveals that the harp sounds throughout the song were made by a toy. Listen to the episode below.
A Seat at the Table was Pitchfork’s number one album of 2016, and “Cranes in the Sky” was our number three song.
