Listen to Unreleased Elliott Smith Song “I Figured You Out” From New Either/Or Reissue
Elliott Smith’s classic 1997 album Either/Or will receive an expanded reissue for its 20th anniversary. To accompany the announcement, Kill Rock Stars has shared a previously unreleased version of the rarity “I Figured You Out,” recorded in 1995. Hear it below. The reissue, which has been remastered by Smith’s collaborator and archivist Larry Crane, is out March 10. See the tracklist below—it includes five songs recorded live in 1997, at Yo Yo A Go Go Festival in Olympia, WA, including the unreleased track “My New Freedom.” Also featured are unreleased studio versions of “New Monkey,” “I Don’t Think I’m Ever Gonna Figure It Out,” and “Bottle Up And Explode.”
Although Smith didn’t release “I Figured You Out” in his lifetime, a version recorded by Mary Lou Lord did appear on her 1997 EP Martian Saints, as a reader points out.
