Luxury Fyre Festival Postponed After Tumultuous Opening Day

A new luxury festival due to take place this weekend in the Bahamas has been postponed after ticket-holders arrived to a campsite embroiled in chaos. Ja Rule and entrepreneur Billy McFarland’s Fyre Festival, for which weekend tickets were priced from $1,000 to $12,000, issued a statement this morning on their website, saying “After assessing the situation this morning and looking at best options for our guests, we cannot move forward as we hoped we could.” It continued, “The festival is being postponed until we can further assess if and when we are able to create the high-quality experience we envisioned.” The statement added that organizers are working on scheduling flights for those already on the island.

The statement on the Fyre website continued, “Due to circumstances out of our control, the physical infrastructure was not in place on time and we are unable to fulfill on that vision safely and enjoyably for our guests.”

Signs of problems at the site began to emerge yesterday, when ticket-holders arrived at a seemingly half-finished campsite. That evening, Blink-182 cancelled, and planes scheduled for the festival were grounded, reportedly because the island was over capacity. Multiple festival-goers already on the island reported underwhelming conditions, including unstable accommodation, haphazard luggage distribution, “luxury tents” seemingly designed for disaster relief, and more. Attempts to leave the island, too, were apparently hindered.

Due to unforeseen and extenuating circumstances, Fyre Festival has been fully postponed (con’t)
