M.I.A. Previews New Song, Says She Wants to Leak Her Album

Last week, M.I.A. revealed that her new album is finished. Today while working in the studio, she got on Periscope and confirmed that the album is in the mixing process. She also previewed a new song, which is apparently called “Finally.” Among the revelations from the broadcast was that the follow-up to 2013′s Matangi will no longer be called Matahdatah. She also revealed that it could be coming sooner than planned. “I would love to leak it,” she said. “I wake up every day and think I’m gonna leak it.” She said she always reconsiders leaking it, though, partially to keep her label’s support and also because this might be her “last” album. “I can always do that for the rest of my life. If I carry on making music, then I would do that, but I also want to find an album where I can actually make my label work for me.” She elaborated:

Maybe I can’t lie enough, which is why I can’t be making a mainstream record. But my songs on this album are pretty non-offensive, and if they get offended by this, then I give up and I’m gonna go back to saying whatever the fuck I want wherever I want to, even on Periscope. I can put a beat on every day and just chat over it.
