M.I.A. Says Matangi Was “Buried” Due to NFL Controversy, Industry Politics

M.I.A., who is gearing up to release her new album, AIM, claimed on Twitter this morning that her last record was “buried” due to the NFL middle-finger controversy and other political issues with her label. Matangi, which was released in 2013 through her own imprint N.E.E.T., via parent label Interscope, suffered from a lack of support due to issues around the “NFL , music industry baby daddy battle, my ex manager became my label head ,and politics,” she alleged. Over the weekend, M.I.A. blamed Interscope for stalling the release of Diplo’s version of “Bird Song.”
