Marlene Marder of Kleenex/LiLiPUT Has Died

Marlene Marder, guitarist for the all-female post-punk group LiLiPUT/Kleenex, has died. The news was announced by her American label, Kill Rock Stars, who said she passed away on Sunday. The cause of death is unknown.

Kleenex formed in Zurich, Switzerland, in the late ’70s, and were one of the first bands to release music through Rough Trade. After putting out a few singles and 1978′s Kleenex EP, they were forced to change their name to LiLiPUT due to legal action from the tissue company. They released two albums on Rough Trade before breaking up in 1983. In recent years, their work was reissued by Kill Rock Stars.
