Mates of State Rock Out With Their Kids in "Staring Contest" Video

Mates of State have a new EP out this week, You’re Going To Make It. To mark the occasion, the duo have shared a video for “Staring Contest”. Directed by Will Kindrick, it stars Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel as a pair of substitute teachers who introduce a performance from some new students  (played by the couple’s real-life daughters Magnolia and June) that’s above and beyond most show-and-tell presentations. Watch it below via Pitchfork.tv.

Here’s what Mates of State had to say about the video in a press release:

[It’s] based on a true story of our daughter June’s intro to her class. Kids are allowed to bring in a book to read to the class. June instead chose to sing an Adele song to them. We re-imagined this performance into a full-on blow out party. During the song bridge, we pay homage to the fight scene in Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” video. The kids skipped school; we flew to California to film in Pasadena.

The duo are also on tour in support of the new EP.
