Mavis Staples, the Eagles, James Taylor to Receive Kennedy Center Honors

Gospel singer Mavis Staples, singer-songwriter James Taylor, and Californian rockers the Eagles will receive Kennedy Center Honors later this year, the New York Times reports. Other recipients of the award this year include actor Al Pacino and pianist Martha Argerich. The Eagles were supposed to get the award last year but deferred the acceptance until this year due to frontman Glenn Frey‘s illness. In light of Frey’s passing earlier this year, the remaining Eagles will accept the award in memory of their “comrade and fellow traveler,” according to a statement. Secretary of State John Kerry will present the honorees with their awards at a red-carpet ceremony on December 4; the ceremony will be broadcast on CBS on December 27.
