Maxwell Returns With New Album blackSUMMERS’night, New Song “Lake by the Ocean”: Listen

Back in 2012, Maxwell was scheduled to release a new album, BlackSUMMERS’night, the follow-up to 2009′s similarly-named BLACKsummers’night. However, Maxwell cancelled a tour due to vocal swelling and hemorrhaging, and the record never came out. Today, having slated a summer 2016 release date for blackSUMMERS’night, Maxwell returns with a new track. See the lyric video for “Lake by the Ocean” below. Update (4/8 7:54 a.m.): blackSUMMERS’night now has a release date: July 1. Update (4/8 9:59 a.m.): Maxwell will head out on a 25-stop tour this summer, beginning June 18. It includes a headlining slot at Essence Festival in New Orleans. He’ll announce the full tour details on April 11.

“Basically, the song represents falling in love after a very tough trial period in life and finding contentment in the smallest things next to the biggest things,” the singer said during a live Q&A on his Facebook. “‘Being content in a lake when you have an entire ocean near you is the epitome of true happiness.”
