Mazzy Star Drummer Keith Mitchell Is Dead
Keith Mitchell, drummer for Mazzy Star, has died. Mitchell passed away on Sunday; a cause of death has yet to be revealed. Bandmates Hope Sandoval and David Roback have issued a statement regarding Mitchell’s death: “Our hearts are broken,” it reads. “We have lost the much beloved Keith Mitchell, a very talented and amazing drummer that we have had the privilege to work with for many years, he will live in all of our hearts forever…. We’ll miss you, Big Fella.”
Mitchell joined Mazzy Star at the advent of the group, as the band rose from the ashes of another California band, Opal (which Mitchell also drummed in). He went on to perform on all of the group’s studio albums, including their 2013 comeback Season of Your Day, which marked the first new Mazzy Star LP in 17 years.
