Measles Outbreak Hits English Music Festivals

A measles outbreak in England is linked to music festivals and other large public events, according to a new report by the UK governmentas NME points out. This June and July, 36 suspected cases were reported at music festivals, including 16 at Glastonbury, as the BBC reports. It marks a rapid increase since 2015, when, in the first half of the year, 54 cases were reported across England; in the same period this year, 234 cases in the country have been confirmed. The government urges teenagers to make sure they’ve been vaccinated against the extremely contagious infection. Dr. Mary Ramsay, head of immunization at Public Health England, said anyone who suspects they have measles should avoid large public events.
