Migos Were Rejected by Every Late Night Show... Until Donald Glover’s Golden Globes Shout-Out

Earlier this week, Migos performed their Culture single “Bad and Boujee” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” Although the song currently sits atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart, it turns out that networks had been initially reluctant to put the trio on TV. In a new feature in The New York Times, Migos’ Quality Control label boss Pierre “Pee” Thomas said, “They gave all kinds of excuses—not the right time, it’s not this, it’s not that.” The turning point came when Donald Glover shouted them out at the Golden Globes: “As soon as Donald Glover did that, the next day, all the people who had just denied us wanted them on their show,” he said. Glover won two awards at the Golden Globes, picking up Best Television Comedy and Best Actor in a TV Comedy Series (both for “Atlanta”). During his acceptance speech for the former, Glover said “I’d like to thank the Migos—not for being on the show, but for making ‘Bad and Boujee.’ Like, that’s the best song… ever.” Later, backstage, Glover called the group “the Beatles of this generation.”
