Nile Rodgers Defends Lady Gaga's David Bowie Grammys Tribute

At Monday’s Grammys ceremony, Lady Gaga and Nile Rodgers paid tribute to David Bowie with a multi-song montage of Bowie’s biggest hits. The performance wasn’t without its detractors—most notably Bowie’s son, Duncan Jones, who appeared to diss it on Twitter. But it has one very visible defender: Rodgers himself, who took to Twitter to defend Gaga against the complaints of the horde. You can find some of his tweets below.

When asked if Bowie would’ve liked the tribute, Rodgers was unequivocal: “ABSOLUTELY!!! ALL DAY LONG.” He also admonished a Twitter user who claimed that Rodgers “never truly knew” Bowie. (Rodgers collaborated with Bowie multiple times, most notably on Let’s Dance. Read our interview with Rodgers about Bowie.)

You really believe “all” were expecting or maybe “you” were expecting, which is cool. Your wants are cool. https://t.co/dkznXlnfB1

Many artists and tributes were performed, we did what we thought and still think was right in our short time slot. x https://t.co/NottaU93am

Don’t take it so seriously. If David or I tried to listen to everyone, we’d have never finished ANYTHING! https://t.co/oHcuKNnJ4p

He has a right to his feelings and opinions too. My brother’s favorite works of mine are all my instrumentals. https://t.co/GDj28EVDkL
