Nina Simone Biopic Starring Zoe Saldana Gets First Trailer

The Nina Simone biopic starring Zoe Saldana as the singer has long been in the works. Today, the first trailer for Nina was released. You can watch it below via Entertainment Weekly. The movie is out April 22. Update (3/2, 9:00 p.m.): Simone’s verified Twitter account has sent a fairly aggressive tweet to Saldana—find it below.

Nina was directed by Cynthia Mort, and also stars David Oyelowo (Selma). 

Last year’s Nina Simone documentary, What Happened, Miss Simone? was nominated for Best Documentary at the recent Academy Awards. It lost to Amy, the Amy Winehouse documentary. What Happened, Miss Simone? was executive produced by Simone’s daughter, Lisa Simone Kelly, who has publicly distanced herself from the Saldana biopic.
