Old Kendrick Lamar Verse Surfaces on Jonathan Emile Track About Police Brutality

Jamaican-Canadian rapper Jonathan Emile has released “Heaven Help Dem”, which features a verse from Kendrick Lamar. The song is about victims of police brutality. According to a publicist, Lamar’s verse was recorded in late 2011, but the song wasn’t completed until last December. The song appears on Emile’s debut album, which will be released in 2015.

Recently, Lamar attracted criticism for statements about police brutality given in a recent interview. “What happened to [Michael Brown] should’ve never happened,” he said. “Never. But when we don’t have respect for ourselves, how do we expect them to respect us? It starts from within. Don’t start with just a rally, don’t start from looting — it starts from within.”
