Phil Elverum: “Please Don’t Come” to Tomorrow’s Mount Eerie Show

Mount Eerie recently announced their first live performance since 2014, playing at the Business record store in Anacortes, Washington on January 6. In a note, Phil Elverum explained that the show would consist of new music about his late wife, Geneviève. Now, in a new statement posted to his Twitter, Elverum has asked fans and friends not to attend the Anacortes concert.

“People from all aspects of my life have been writing me to tell me they plan on making a journey in order to attend,” he says. “Relatives, friends, strangers… it feels as if I’m about to play at Madison Square Garden and nobody wants to miss it.” Elverum continues, “Please don’t come. It was supposed to be a mellow ‘practice show’, un-amplified and quiet, in a very small record store at 5 p.m.”

Elverum then goes on to explain that while he appreciates the “show of support for me in what has been a pretty brutal time in my life,” he regrets announcing the show so publicly and that he is “overwhelmed.” According to the statement, he will still play the show and the new songs will be “released on a new album very soon,” with a tour to follow.
