Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason Criticizes U2′s Free Songs of Innocence Release

In a recent interview, the Black Keys’ Patrick Carney took aim at U2 for their surprise, free iTunes release of Songs of Innocence, saying it “devalued their music completely”. Now, a different big tent rock band’s drummer has echoed that criticism: Pink Floyd‘s Nick Mason.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Mason said U2 did it “the wrong way” and that Pink Floyd are hoping that people will “actually buy” their new album The Endless River, which is out November 10. He also said their album release strategy “does devalue things,” adding, “Music has been horribly devalued by being given away. It’s funny they didn’t sense some of that. It’s been the big story of the 21st century, music being de-valued.”
