Prince Had No Known Will, Sister Says in Legal Filing

Prince had no known will, according to Tyka Nelson, his sister, who made the claim in a legal filing today, as the AP reports. In the filing, Nelson said a suburban Minneapolis court should name a special administrator to handle the music legend’s estate. Online court records viewed by Pitchfork confirm that Tyka Nelson filed a “Petition for Formal Appointment of Special Administrator.” Nelson is Prince’s only living full sibling.

Nelson’s filing said immediate action is needed to run Prince’s business affairs, the AP reports. Bremer Trust, a corporate trustee, was her choice of administrator, according to the filing in Carver County probate court. Prince reportedly had about $27 million in property, though the total value of his estate was uncertain.

Prince was found dead last week at his Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota, at age 57. A cause of death has not been disclosed. An autopsy was completed on Friday, but a local medical examiner’s office said the results of a full toxicology scan may not be available for weeks.
