Prince to Play Eight-Minute "Jam Session" on "Saturday Night Live"

Prince will perform on this week’s episode of “Saturday Night Live”, marking his first appearance on the show since 2006. He’ll be breaking new ground, too. Traditionally, musical guests perform twice in four-minute bursts: once near midnight, and once near the end of the show. Instead, Prince will perform for eight straight minutes in the middle of the show, without an encore. He’ll be joined by his band, 3rdEyeGirl. 

Eight minutes is just long enough to do the full “Purple Rain”, but it’ll probably be something from the recently released Art Official Age and PlectrumElectrum albums. It’s also being billed as a “jam session” in a press release, so brace yourself.

Chris Rock is hosting this week’s episode. Prince’s musical guest slot came at Rock’s request.
