Prince’s Band the Revolution Announce Reunion

Prince's Band the Revolution Announce Reunion

Following his death last week, Prince‘s iconic backing band, the Revolution, have announced that they will reunite and play some shows, as The Fader points out. In a video posted to BrownMark’s Facebook page, Wendy Melvoin says that the band spent three or four days together grieving the loss of Prince before they decided to hit the road “soon.” Watch the announcement below.

In his memorial essay about Prince, Questlove writes that when the Revolution first reunited in 2014, Prince actually ignored them. “In the summer of 2014, his old band, the Revolution, reunited at First Avenue in Minneapolis,” he wrote. “They were all set up for him to join in and play. He drove right past. Prince was a great drummer, and he was always marching to his own beat.”

The Revolution were credited on three of Prince’s albums: 1985′s Around the World in a Day, 1986′s Parade, and most memorably, 1984′s Purple Rain. (The accompanying film has returned to theaters for a short run.) Members of the band also played on 1982′s 1999.
