Producer Sandy Pearlman Dead at 72

Rock producer Sandy Pearlman has died at age 72, Ultimate Classic Rock reports. His friend Robert Duncan (who started a GoFundMe page for Pearlman after the producer suffered a cerebral hemorrhage), initially broke the news on Facebook. Pearlman was best known for his work with the Clash and Blue Öyster Cult.

He produced the Clash’s 1978 album Give ’Em Enough Rope and many Blue Öyster Cult records. Most famously, he co-produced their 1976 hit “Don’t Fear the Reaper.” In 2000, Christopher Walken portrayed a fictional producer of the track on the “Saturday Night Live” sketch “More Cowbell.” When asked about the sketch, Pearlman quipped, “Actually, I needed less cowbell.”
