Radiohead’s Scrapped Third Man Sessions: “Not Worth Waiting For,” Ed O’Brien Says

Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien sat down with Matt Everitt on BBC Radio 6’s “The First Time With…,” a show where artists are interviewed about the moments and music that shaped their careers. In the hour-long interview, O’Brien discussed Radiohead’s beginnings, discography, and inspirations. Near the end, Everitt asked O’Brien if the world would ever hear Radiohead’s 2012 sessions recorded at Jack White’s Third Man Records in Nashville. He replied:

I don’t know. It was alright. It was OK. I can’t really remember. It was really fun. Jack was so hospitable, him and his engineer—he records everything on 8-track. Listen, it’s not worth waiting for. If anything was amazing, you can be sure—we’d try and put it out.

When asked if he could confirm whether or not Radiohead will tour next year (as Thom Yorke previously hinted on BBC Radio 1), O’Brien said the band have been “given some dates to look at” and are getting ready to meet and nail down whether or not they plan to tour in 2017.

O’Brien talked about his early inspirations, meeting his bandmates, bonding with Thom Yorke over New Order, the band’s first bedroom recordings, testing out OK Computer songs while touring with Alanis Morissette, how The Bends was a response to their “one hit wonder” status after “Creep,” and more.
