Read Tyler, the Creator’s Long Essay on Pharrell’s In My Mind for 10th Anniversary

Ten years ago today, Pharrell Williams released his debut solo album, In My Mind. Tyler, the Creator has long voiced his love for Pharrell, and to mark the record’s 10th anniversary, he has posted a long Facebook note about the impact it had on him at the time and ever since. He writes that “I Really Like You” is the best song on the record, and that “Raspy Shit” is the worst song Pharrell has ever made (“I hate that song so much I really wish it didn’t exist you are so gross for that dude”). Most important to Tyler, though, was “You Can Do It Too,” which he writes, “made [him] feel safe, and is why [he] created Odd Future that same summer.” He adds, “I was actually naïve enough to believe you and think I could have any car I wanted, any types of stones, marry who I want, make the music I wanted to and do all these amazing things by just being who I am.” Read the full note below.

Tyler has gotten to work with his idol on multiple occasions. Pharrell featured on Wolf’s “IFHY” and Cherry Bomb’s “Keep Da O’s.” The two chatted on Pharrell’s Beats 1 show in August 2015, as well as this past April.
