Rock Hall 2017: Eddie Vedder Thanks Chance the Rapper For “Great Work” in Chicago

It was a huge night for Eddie Vedder as Pearl Jam were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. During the ceremony at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, the band were inducted by David Letterman, joined by their fellow inductees for an all-star Neil Young cover, and performed a set of their own. In the middle of the festivities, Vedder took a moment in his speech to offer an unlikely shout-out. “If somehow, some way Chance the Rapper ever sees or hears this, I just want to tell him my daughter, Olivia, loves you,” Vedder said. “I also, Chance, want to thank you for all the great work you’re doing in Chicago. That’s the kind of music activism that gives us all hope.” Watch him make those comments in the video below.

Vedder is likely referring to Chance’s recent announcement that he raised $2.2 million for Chicago Public Schools, which followed his $1 million donation. Chance’s work was previously praised by Michelle Obama; his fans are urging him to run for mayor. Vedder is an Evanston, Illinois native and noted Cubs fan.
