Royal Trux Reunite

Neil Hagerty and Jennifer Herrema are getting the band back together: Royal Trux have announced a reunion show. They’re playing the Berserktown II festival on August 16 in Los Angeles.
Royal Trux formed in 1987 following Hagerty’s stint in Pussy Galore. The influential noise-rock duo released a string of albums, including 1990′s Twin Infinitives, 1993′s Cats and Dogs, and 1998′s Accelerator, before calling it quits in 2001. According to Hagerty, “drugs broke the band up.” Herrema went on to record as RTX and then Black Bananas, while Hagerty released several albums under his own name and with the Howling Hex. In recent years, Drag City has been reissuing several Royal Trux releases.
In Brandon Stosuy’s 2012 interview with Hagerty and Herrema, both ruled out the possibility of a Royal Trux reunion. “We’ve been offered a few times, but it just doesn’t make sense to me,” said Herrema. “It will never happen,” said Hagerty, “It is just too depressing.”
In 2012, Hagerty performed Twin Infinitives without Herrema. In 2013, Hagerty worked with Herrema on the Black Bananas album Electric Brick Wall.
According to a statement from Drag City, the reunion will happen “for at least one Earth night.” It adds, cryptically, “And beyond that? Man, the future is UNKNOWABLE – but there’s a few things that we’ve never minded envisioning. And they’re always Royal Trux.”
As previously reported, Berserktown II’s lineup also features Black Bananas, plus Thee Oh Sees, White Lung, Fucked Up, Royal Headache, Milk Music, Total Control, Dead Moon, Screaming Females, Amen Dunes, Sheer Mag, Destruction Unit, Priests, Downtown Boys, the reunited Danish punks No Hope For the Kids, Gun Outfit, Wax Idols, and many more.
