RZA and System of a Down's Shavo Odadjian Release Collaborative Album as Achozen

RZA and System of a Down’s Shavo Odadjian’s long-gestating project Achozen have released eight new tracks, as Rolling Stone reports. They’re being sold with a limited edition version of the Boombotix Boombot Pro portable speaker. George Clinton and former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante are featured on the tracks, which include the previously released “Salute Sacrifice”.

Achozen was first announced in the mid-2000s, but only produced a couple of released songs. In their interview with Rolling Stone, RZA and Odadjian attributed the delay to scheduling issues. RZA said he was inspired to release their music through Boombotix after releasing a sampler of Wu-Tang Clan‘s A Better Tomorrow LP via the speaker company.

“In January, I had took a listen to the Achozen album again in my studio – sober – and I was like, ‘Man, this shit is fucking   how the fuck… wow. We never gave this to the world,’” RZA told Rolling Stone. “So I talked to Shavo and he tells me that this is the 100-year anniversary of the Armenian genocide. ‘Then we got to do it!’ It just hit me like, ‘Yo, this is a great place to put the record at and it won’t be going through all that other bullshit that we’ve been trying to avoid.’”

The two also estimate that there are 12 to 15 songs they’ve yet to finish. They also said they plan to release more material—again, through Boombotix.
