Seth Rogen Says Kanye West Told Him the "Bound 2" Video Was "Supposed to Be Bad"

Last year, Seth Rogen and James Franco made a shot-for-shot remake of Kanye West‘s “Bound 2″ video. It was such a hit that they were asked by Yeezy to perform the parody at his own wedding to Kim Kardashian. Alas, it didn’t happen. But in an edition of Jimmy Fallon’s “Tales from Set” online video series, Rogen and Franco talked a little bit more about how the video came to exist and West’s reaction to it.

Rogen said that West told him that the original “Bound 2″ video was “supposed to be bad, that it was bad for the purpose of being bad.” When Rogen said they’d spent three or four hours making it, West responded, “Man, you guys spent more time working on it than we did.” (“I bet they spent more money on it, though,” Rogen added.)

Also, there’s this amusing wrinkle to West’s request that Rogen and Franco perform the parody at his wedding. After detailing how it would work—with Rogen and Franco mounting the motorcycle in front of the entire wedding—West reconsidered. Franco says that West said, “Now that I hear that coming out of my mouth, I think maybe it’s not the best idea. Maybe it’ll be funny for the first 15 seconds, and then everybody will sit there awkwardly.”

Additionally, Franco was originally going to play Kardashian, because Rogen didn’t want to make Franco have to memorize the whole song. But they ended up switching roles, because they realized it would be way more funny (and Rogen’s back is much more hairy).
