Sex Pistols’ John Lydon Says Trump Is Not Racist, Calls Him “a Possible Friend”
Earlier today, John Lydon made an appearance on “Good Morning Britain” with hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid to talk about President Donald Trump, calling him a “possible friend” and dismissing claims that Trump is a racist. “What I dislike is the left-wing media in America are trying to smear the bloke as a racist, and that’s completely not true,” he said. “There’s many, many problems with him as a human being, but he’s not that, and there just might be a chance something good will come out of that situation, because he terrifies politicians. And this is joy to behold.” Morgan then called him “the absolutely archetypal anti-establishment character in politics.” Lydon added, “Dare I say, a possible friend.”
At the beginning of the interview, the former Sex Pistol and PiL frontman (who is now a U.S. citizen) also called his experience meeting UK Independence Party leader Nigel Farage “fantastic.” He said of Brexit: “The working class have spoke, and I’m one of them, and I’m with them. In a new interview with the New York Times, Lydon was asked whether he thinks conservatism is the new punk rock. “Aaaaaah! No! [laughs] Aaaaaah! There’s better analogies than that. Is Donald the new Sex Pistols? I don’t know, and I don’t think you need to tie things together that way,” he replied. “It’s too easy. That’s lazy intellectualism at work, that is.”
