Sigur Ros Launch 24-Hour “Slow TV” Event

Sigur Rós recently returned to the live circuit with a revamped set, featuring an impressive light show and a new song called “Óveður.” Today, they’ve announced “Route One,” a 24-hour “slow TV” live broadcast that’s airing right now on Iceland’s Ruv 2, and streaming worldwide on YouTube. The broadcast is a trip along the entirety of Route 1, a road that circles around Iceland, set to a soundtrack built around “Óveður.” The soundtrack is being created in real time through the Bronze app, which a press release describes as “generative music software.” The trip will take the viewer past many of the country’s landmarks, a press release notes. “In a day and age of instant gratification and everything moving so fast, we wanted to do the exact opposite,” the band’s Jónsi Birgisson said. “Slow TV is counter-active to the world we live in, in that it happens in real time and real slow.” Stream it all below. The announcement follows the mysterious “Route One” teaser, which launched this morning.
