Sigur Rós to Stream Ágætis byrjun Release Day Concert for 16th Anniversary

Earlier this year, Sigur Rós announced an expanded box set reissue of their 1999 LP Ágætis byrjun. Today, to mark that record’s 16th anniversary, they’ll audio-stream its release-day show at the Icelandic Opera House, which took place on this day in 1999. The concert will play through once only, starting at 9 p.m. GMT, the same time as the original concert – that’s 5 p.m. Eastern time and 2 p.m. Pacific.

According to the Sigur Rós website, which is currently showing a countdown to the stream, the set draws equally from Ágætis byrjun and its 1997 predecessor Von. It was their last performance with drummer and founder member Ágúst Ævar Gunnarsson.

The performance will also feature on the deluxe vinyl box set reissue of Ágætis byrjun (release date TBC), along with unheard studio recordings, rare live cuts, photos, and other documentary materials from the period. Watch a teaser for the reissue below.

Ágætis byrjun was #8 on Pitchfork’s “Top 200 Albums of the 2000s” list.
