“South Park” Creators Mock Kanye West’s Video Game

“South Park” famously parodied Kanye West in the show’s 2009 episode “Fishsticks,” in which the animated Kanye got mad after being called “a gay fish.” Show creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker were at E3 recently, where Parker revived the bit to make fun of West’s in-the-works video game “Only One,” which follows his late mother, Donda West, on her journey to heaven. As XXL points out, Parker gave a sarcastic synopsis about their game “South Park: The Fractured But Whole,” telling the crowd: “There’s a gay fish in South Park, and he loves fish sticks, and the gay fish actually wants you to help him get his mother into heaven, so you get to journey up and help this little gay fish get his mom into heaven.” He then mimicked West’s own reaction when he showed the game at his Yeezy Season 3 event at Madison Square Garden: “You’re all acting like shit’s regular. This shit is hard. I hope you all saw the Kanye thing.” Watch the moment below.

Following the “Fishsticks” episode, Kanye wrote a post on his website thanking “South Park” for the episode. In 2010, Matt Stone talked to Pitchfork about the episode, saying, “I mean we’re like, ‘Kanye, you are humorless. You do need to grow a sense of humor.’ Yeah, so that was not what we expected to have happen, to have him thank us. [laughs] I thought we were going to need a bodyguard, you know?” In 2013, the West parody returned to “South Park” once more in an episode that featured a “Bound 2” goof.
