Spike Lee Honors Prince With Massive Brooklyn Block Party

Yesterday, Prince was found dead at his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota. Countless people—including President Obama, Questlove, Frank Ocean, Justin Vernon, the Haim sisters, and plenty more—took to social media to pay their respects. Spike Lee was among those who offered tribute online. Last night, he honored the icon with “PRINCE We Love You Shockadelica Joint,” a massive, impromptu block party outside his production headquarters in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The New York City Police Department cordoned off the block for the crowd to dance and sing along with Lee to the Purple One’s greatest hits. Around 1,000 fans attended the event at 40 Acres & A Mule, according to the Associated Press. (This morning, Lee estimated a head count of around 5,000.) Check out photos and footage below.
